i am experiencing  knee pain, lower leg pain and knee stiffness. the following also describes me: excessive running. what should i do?

Runs w knee/leg pain: May be tendonitis, IT band ( from hip to knee), patella mal-alignment,patellofemoral syndrome, shin splits / stress fracture. Would check  for patella alignment,meniscus,  flat feet, check shoes that they are not worn, consider kinesiotape on knees, shins, ice, rest. Follow up with  ortho/ podiatry as you have to take a break from running if stress /fracture or shin splits

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor. In the mean time you may take an over the counter pain medication like acetaminophen.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

noticed hard lump mid lower leg,top of shin today size of large marble.knee pain too but thats not uncommon.tender to touch.no recent injuries but i have fibrous dysplacia in skull,could this be same on leg now?i was told it only occurs in1 location?

: By Mayo clinic: "in most cases, fibrous dysplasia occurs at a single site in one bone, but can occur at multiple sites in multiple bones. Single bone involvement usually occurs in adolescents and young adults". You should see you doctor for a leg X-ray if the skin over the lump is normal. If the skin is abnormal, fibrous dysplasia is less likely.

Very unlikely: At your age pain in the knee is most likely some kind of soft tissue problem or possibly early degenerative change. You may want to see your doctor to get an x-ray.

Maybe : Maybe. Full exam needed if a contusion or sprain will improve but if it's a crucial or collateral ligament tear or meniscus tear may need more rehabilitation or surgery to fix. Tell MD where the pain is how long it lasts if it radiates. Do low impact elliptical or recumbent bike till pain improves please. Controlling your diet will definitely help in the long run. my wife also has knee pain on the outside just below knee on the bone and up the outside leg. she walks far distances daily. pains when heel strikes ground.  she suspect ibs? how should this be treated?

Knee and heel pain: The knee and heel pain are likely due to walking a lot. Point tenderness on the knee, meaning that the pain gets worse when you push on it, is commonly a sign of bursitis. Heel pain is the most common location of pain in plantar fasciitis, which is also related to overuse. Low impact physical activity and rest are recommended as first line therapies. i have had left knee pain off and on for years and several years back a procedure was performed where shaving of some bone spurs was done.  my knee pain has come and gone since.  however, about 1 year ago, i injured it by lifting my leg and with some force met the corner of a wall with the top of my knee.  x-rays showed no break.  doctor prescribed pt, which did not help.  pain has continued/worsened.  there is now bruising (black and blue) on the inside of my knee. is this worrisome?

Knee pain: I assume you have an orthopedic surgeon who can examine and advise you. An MRI of the knee would seem advisable to look for internal derangement of the joint. I don't think that a simple xray would give you enough information.
