Couple of things: You may have a tendonitis or you may have a bone spur preventing motion of the toe.

Be seen : I would be seen.  The L5 nerve root is the nerve that supplies the EHL which is the muscle that raises the big toe.  Your weakness and numbness suggest severe compression of that nerve being one of the most likely causes.  Don't hesitate to be seen for treatment alternatives.

Can't bend toe: 29 F I can't bend my big toe down after a DIPJ injury 8 months ago. Xray was fine but it's painful to touch on surface and outer side. What might it be? ANS:if you cannot really  bend your toe down at all you may have torn lose the the big toe flexing tendon from the big toe bending muscle and this may not show up on X-ray. Show to your Dr.

Gout attack: You are having a gout attack. See your family doctor or Go to the ER ASAP for a definitive diagnosis and treatment. Until you can get to see a doctor, take some NSAIDS like ibuprofen, keep your foot elevated and use some cold compresses. Wear open toed shoes. Don't eat beans, meat, cheese, shellfish or drink alcohol.

It was likely : Damaged. See a foot doc let him take xrays and he can give you an assessment after examining the range of motion of the joint.

Sounds early: You may be getting the start of what is called a hallux limitus or a jamming of the joint causing restricted motion and what may lead to complete loss of motion as the condition progresses....X-ray changes and spurring of the bones usually follow as the condition worsens. Have a podiatrist check it out and advise you further.

Not normal: There is an expected range of motion to the great toe and bending downward past parallel to the foot is expected.  There may be pathology in the joint or surrounding structures or arthritic changes to the great toe joint.

Toenail?: Assuming you mean the toenail, this is likely either a fungus darkening the nail, or just incurvation, possibly associated with a spur under the nail. This will cause bruising of the nailbed and nail deformity. Either way, a podiatrist is your best bet for evaluation and treatment options.
