pain, numbness in face, neurologist says after tests, cause is stress. he referred me to ent, he says i have trigeminal neuralgia.  who do i believe?

2nd opinion: Hi,I would go to another neurologist(board certified) for a second opinion. S/he can get the results of the tests performed by the first neurologist so as not to repeat them I say this because the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia is different than the treatment of stress. Very likely: It's the most probably explanation. At 21, you're not likely to have a serious illness and there is no single explanation for such diverse symptoms.

Absolutely: Absolutely yes, stress and anxiety can present in curious ways.  I always advise my patients with stress to exercise and consider meditation or relaxing techniques.

Have you spoke with your doctor about these concerns?  Numbness has a many possible etiologies besides stress.

Yes: An injury to the infraorbital nerve can occur with an injury and fracture of the anterior wall of maxillary bone.  This would lead to numbness along the anterior cheek and upper teeth.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated.

Not necessarily : Tmj syndrome is usually characterized by painful muscles around the jaw area, neck.. Tingling/ numbness is a possible but infrequent symptom. Get an evaluation with a qualified dentist.
