i can't empty my bowels all the way. i have to apply pressure between vagina and anal to get all the rest out. is this normal? being treated by pcp for high blood pressure, low potassium, and omeprazole for the gas. i am female and 40yrs. i also have ibs

It : It sounds like you are dealing with motility dysfunction of your colon which is common in ibs. This is very difficult to treat and requires the expertise of a gastroenterologist. 
There is research that supports the use of different herbs to help with this problem. These include:
turmeric
goldenseal
marshmallow
slippery elm 
licorice
peppermint
echinacea
chamomile

is it true that omeprazole can cause high cholesterol?

Accepted Answer

No: Omeprazole (prilosec) is not known to cause high cholesterol. Long term use may lower absorption of calcium, vitamin b12, etc... Older folks may have a higher risk of hip fractures. Stomach acid kills germs, so some infections may be more likely in a person with suppressed acid. If a person's diet stayed the same, but his cholesterol increased after starting omeprazole, his doctor can investigate.

Omeprazole is: unlikely to produce cardiac side effects primarily. If it causes severe pain, cramping, diarrhea or dehydration you might develop a secondary tachycardia.

Yes. : Diet is a very important to have healthy stomach health.   Stay away from spicy foods,  chocolates and peppermint.   Wear a loose belt.   Raise the head of the bed or use more pillows might help decrease symptoms.

i'm 22 & unable to get a full erection at the moment and don't know why. up to 2 wks ago i was taking omeprazole for gastritis, can this cause it?

Unlikely: The causes of difficulty with erections are many - but unlikely related to omeprazole, and the problem wouldn't last after stopping the medication even if it were involved. Most common causes in 22yr old men are psychological - anxiety or other concerns. If this problem persists, talk to your doctor.

i got prescribed bactrim and omeprazole after three days of taking them i got rashes all over i finished the dose but i still got the rashes was i allergic to them ? and how long will it take to get better ?

Rash: Although could be either statistically it is most likely the Bactrim causing the problem. As long as you stopped the medication the rash should resolve in a few days. Benadryl should help. If worsening rash, fever or flu like symptoms be seen .  There is  rare condition called Steven Johnson syndrome.

which is more effective dexilant (dexlansoprazole) or omeprazole? which is safer?

is atrophic gastritis risk with these high with long term use?

They are equivalent.: Both of these work equally well. However, some patients respond well to one and not the other, and sometimes trial and error is the only method to determine which medication is best for a particular patient. The risk of atrophic gastritis, although small, would be essentially equal for each of the medications. I would recommend returning to your gastroenterologist to discuss this. Good luck.

PPIs: Long term effects of Omeprazole and other proton pump inhibitors are being studied ; more information gets to surface. Long term use causes damage to acid secreting cells in the stomach and some folks may end up having troubles with digesting food later in life. Also, there is an increased risk of intestinal infection such as clostridium difficile. Also, bone related side effects are being seen.
