Maybe: I can't say I have ever seen it happen. Most parents do not do it as often as the kid needs or as vigorously as they need. Since a small kid needs the mucous debris removed to effectively use their nose, it is one of the few treatments that can make a real difference.Cold meds often thicken mucous producing a negative effect.

Ear infection causes: Ear infections are caused by bacteria or viruses. Noses are full of bacteria anyway. Saline rinses away a few bacteria; if the bottle is dirty, saline may add a few bacteria to the nose, but they won't often travel to the ear because the Eustachian tube is a tiny passage, esp in children. Droplets of water sprayed in nose are only in the nose a few minutes. Squeeze bottle irrigation CAN hurt ears.

Yes, but...: There's no harm in using a nasal saline spray.  If it helps your runny nose, it's fine.

Hydration: Drinking plenty of fluids and a humidifier can help.  Also, nasal saline irrigations and topical gels can also help.

There might be: an infection, perhaps folliculitis.  Try Bactroban (mupirocin)

have sinus.when i blow my nose with after applying saline nasal spray, blood comes out with thin white mucus.what could be causing it?

Inflammation : Sinusitis is inflammation of mucosa of the sinus.   When mucosa gets dry/wet the mucosa can be fragile and sometimes capillaries can break and you see some blood.   Mucus is normally made by the mucosa.   In sinus conditions more than usual mucus is seen because it has difficulty draining.  Your pcp could help with some medications if it doesn't resolve with your saline spray.

how long does a cold last? i have had a stuffy nose for three days now. feeling a little better better and no fever but still sneezing.

i used a saline nasal spray and flonase but it just clogs my nose up worse.

Using too many things in the nose too often can cause a rebound congestion. If your symptoms are uncomfortable or have a temperature greater than 100.5 F more than 3 days, or temperature more than 102 see your doctor. Drink extra water (if you are permitted)
