Musculoskeletal: 40's female w. anterior neck pain &amp; focus at clavicle likely has soft tissue spasm. Etiology: compensatory soft tissue splinting of sterno-clavicular joint subluxation due to ligament laxity of Hypermobility Syndrome. Perhaps ergonomic concerns &amp; repetitive stress involved. If fever, sick feeling, dizziness or arm numbness seek urgent care. Osteopathy &amp; P.T. evaluation &amp; treat?

i got into an accident and it caused a mild whiplash which has lead to some spasming in my neck. but also have neck grinding noise. what is that?

If there is some de-: -generation present or even ligament injury, there is noise made with motion. And you hear this because sound is transmitted through a solid ( bone) even better than a liquid, both of which are much better than air. When i listen with a stethoscope, i am not able 2 hear the noises people hear when moving their neck.

Hard to say: Hard to say, there may be a number of potential causes.  If you have not had one, you might want to consider getting an MRI to check for underlying causes such as a pinched nerve.

Many things: Could be taut muscle band or muscle spasm called a tender point or a trigger point.  This could also be a tender lymph node, especially if you were recently sick.  Other things could be a boil or a lipoma.  If it is bothering you and does not resolve, see your doctor for further evaluation.

So many causes: Spines develop abnormal curves in the same way they can develop abnormal straightening.Causes can be arthritis, vertebral compression; nerve dysfunction, bone, ligament, or muscle injuries, muscle strength imbalances, etc. Some people are born to develop curves (scoliosis), others develop them due to injury.A good do might find the source of the problem and correct it.
