i've scalp folliculitis, used bactroban (mupirocin) ointment 3wks &cloxacillin 3x/day for 1wk bt still grows more, shld i continue both?will dr.kaufman xps soap help

No: I find that scalp folliculitis is treated best with a topical prescription antibiotic such as Clindamycin solution. Sometimes, an oral antibiotic is needed as well.

my arm is sore/ when i move it around.  doctor said it was folliculitis and have taken bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for 4 days and using bactroban ointment. any suggestion?

See details: Are you saying the soreness is due to a skin rash? If that is the case and the current meds are not helping then see a dermatologist. One cannot comment on a rash without being able to visualize it.

Ask your doctor: The doctor who prescribed these meds is properly the one to ask. In fact, he/she may be highly annoyed with you upon finding out that you asked a lot of remote-access doctors who don't have a doctor-patient relationship with you instead of him/her. This is not really responsible behavior. Don't be afraid to call your doc and ask. He/she would want you to. If he/she doesn't, find another doctor.

: Scalp folliculitis is common on areas of the scalp which may have compromised circulation depending on the portion of the skull which is resting on a mattress or pillow. There are other factors, and the area involved may simply be random. See a dermatologist to be certain about origin and treatment.

Maybe: The hair bearing areas are tolerant to some localized disturbance & will often regrow hair after the inflammation settles down.If significant scarring occurs, it can leave a hairless patch. If bothersome to a kid as they grow older, the area can be cut out & the remaining scalp stretched & re-aligned to cover the defect.

Not for that.: Cheaper to use Vaseline petroleum jelly which is in many ointments. Save the mupirocin for infections to prevent resistant bacteria.

Probably: They are all topical antibiotics so will all accomplish similar tasks.  Bactroban (mupirocin) has superior coverage for staph bacteria.

May need more: Simple impetigo in a localized setting may respond to local treatment with bactroban. Cleansing the area with peroxide can assist in some cases. When the problem is not responding an oral antibiotic may be required as the germ may be colonizing hidden sites like the nasal passages that re-seed the problem.

what can i use to clear my face up quickly? i believe i have folliculitis from shaving.

Folliculitis: Couple of suggestions  - avoid the triple and quad razors - they tend to cut the follicle off below the skin - creating the possibility of an ingrown hair.   I usually recommend a good otc facial scrub  that helps refresh the skin and cuts down on blind pores.  Any good acne wash will help reduce the level of skin bacteria as well.  A clean fresh razor will also help.
