i am 54 years old male having gerd and ibs. currently taking rabeprazole 20 mg (ppi) 3 times a week - morning time and dmpy 10mg 2 times a week - evening time for almost one year. can i just use melatonin 6 mg instead of rabeprazole 20 mg. ?

Recheck with doctors: Question is unclear. Also, you are posting on our free, global, public, informational forum, where medical advice and care are not given. GERD is a common problem, and happens in millions of people. Treatments are with various medications. Melatonin is not an acid blocker. Not sure what DMPY 10mg is. It is best to discuss this with the prescribing doctor.

I never would: Melatonin has never been studied adequate detail in infants &amp; children to the point a dosage could be specified or the long term effects known. I would  not recommend it. Diphenhydramine (benedryl) would be my go to med in the rare case that I would consider it. Even it can have the opposite effect on some kids than the expected drowsiness.

Talk to your doctor: It's so good you asked. Don't give anything to your 3 year old without consulting your doctor. Having a child with adhd is exhausting, but you need to adhere strictly to doctors orders. You might need more support for yourself. It would be totally normal if you were feeling overwhelmed. Melatonin & children: I would not give it to any child until they are over 16 yrs. Old. You need to do behaviour modification on your child for better sleep hygiene and if it does not help see your pediatrician.
Some children need to have a quiet time before bedtime wihtout any tv or other distractions. Sometimes even the night lihght keeps them awake. Talk to you md so they can guide you.

NO DO NOT: Don't give the baby melatonin.Even in adults,melatonin is not a sleeping pill.It just tells the body clock to shift the sleep cycle to an earlier time.It will not do this to a baby and it may be harmful.I don't think anyone has tested melatonin in babies.It would make no sense.

: While melatonin can be an effective temporary medication to use for occasional sleep disturbances, it should not be used daily, especially in children. There is evidence that it has some benefit for daily use specifically in children who have ADHD, autism, cerebral palsy or developemental delays.

Before trying: Before you try any over the counter remedies, you should definitely talk to a pediatrician.  Also, setting a night time ritual that encourages sleep is important.  TV's and electronics are stimulating so turning them off at least an hour before bedtime is essential for kids.
