In several ways!: Lupus can be associated with dry-eye syndrome, typically more severe in sjogren's syndrome.  Very severe lupus can causes optic neuritis, but this is quite rare.  The most common problem with the eye in lupus patients is the development of cataracts from treatment with steroids, one of many reasons doses should be kept low. Plaquenyl eye toxicity is nill, by using less than 6 mg/kg of body weight.

Lupus : Can cause significant inflammation inside your eyes but there is not direct association with eyelid twitching.  If you are diagnosed with lupus, make sure you have a complete evaluation by an ophthalmologist.

i have lupus and vasculitus of my retinas. i got 3 steroid drips and on a course of prednisone. my eyes are not better yet. will the meds work?

Retinal vasculitis: This is a serious  condition. Would tell your doctor you are not better  and or get a second opinion from a university ophthalmologist who specializes in retinitis. You may need intraocular steorids ( injection or implant) ,  or  IV steroids like 1 gram over 2-3 days to stop the inflammation as well as oral autoimmune medications like Imuran, celcept, methotrexate  or Benlysta/ f/u/ tomorrow

i am 39 yrs old with systemic lupus, last night my nose has a clear stream just drippng, my eyes are red and dry, i checked pollen count and it 2.2 so?

Allergies: Your symptoms are consistent with allergies like hay fever. A trial of antihistamines like benadryl (causes drowsiness) or claritin(non drowsy) as well as nasal decongestant spray may be effective for symptom relief. A cortisone type nasal spray requires a prescription and may also be needed.

i'm in my early 40s and have been told i have cataracts in both eyes and slight focal photoreceptor layer atrophy. should i be concerned? i have well controlled lupus and am on plaquenil which has showed no toxicity on oct.

Follow the : instructions of your Opthamologist  carefully!  The cataracts should be "dealt with" when they begin to interfere with your vision significantly .  Hope this helps!

Either one or both: Lupus is an inflammatory condition, while botox is used to reverse wrinkles, but both have similar effects in causing swelling beneath the skin of the eyelids...

i am weaning off klonopin and have lupus. i have had a severe headache for a week. my temples, eyes, the region below the ears and the back of head hurt. i have never had this before and it worsens in light. should i see a doctor or wait for it to pass?

Lupus headaches: People who have systemic lupus can develop headaches that can mimic migraines but dont respond to migraine meds. Consult your doctor. You may have to go on steroids to relieve your headaches.

the last eye checkup i had, my eye doctor took photos of my eyes and one of my optic nerves i believe was pale? im a 22 year old female and she asked me if i ever had lupus? or something wrong with my brain? what does this mean? should i be worried

Call your doctor: The most important part of health care is good communication with your doctors. Do not be afraid to call him or her and ask what was the concern for the pictures, maybe is that they want to document something to re check objectively during the next visit. You can request the medical records also. Call and you will be less worried.
