Accepted Answer

Probably not.: There may be some issues with statins, like myalgia, or hepatic inflammation, but memory loss is an insignificant concern.  I f are on Lipitor (atorvastatin) and becoming forgetful, something else is more likely to be the cause of memory loss!

Advice: Without knowing more about you and what is in the 'herbal pills' you want to take, advice isn't possible with any chance its appropriate. Asking your doctor who prescribed the Lipitor (atorvastatin) is a good idea.

Helpful: Adding fish oil is "the icing on the cake" it is sometimes used as an adjunct to help control hyperlipidemia along with medicines like lipitor (atorvastatin).

No: Lipitor (atorvastatin) cannot cause kidney problems.

dr switched me back to 40mg simvastatin after taking 20mg lipitor (atorvastatin). should i get off the lipitor (atorvastatin) for a few days before starting simvastatin?

Accepted Answer

Not necessary: Simvastatin 40mg is similar in potency to 20mg of lipitor (atorvastatin).  There is no need to stop Lipitor (atorvastatin) for a few days before starting Simvastatin as they are similar drugs (both are statins).  The Simvastatin can be started the day after stopping the Lipitor (atorvastatin) -- for most efficacy, take a statin at bedtime.

how long does it take for your body to get rid of the statin drug after stopping lipitor (atorvastatin) that was taken for 10 years?

1 (up to 2) weeks: Statins clear the blood rapidly once daily dosing has stopped. While everyone's metabolism is unique, you should expect the medication will be out of the blood within 2 weeks (usually by 1 week).

i have high triglycerides they gave me lipitor (atorvastatin)  for it and i woke up with an anxiety attack tonight  is that normal?

Lipitor (atorvastatin): Not common, but if reoccurs tonight, contact your prescribing doc.

Elevated : Cholesterol levels. Discuss with your provider your concerns. If absolutely indicated frequent monitoring of liver enzymes will be indicated

Hypertriglyceridemia: Although triglycerides play a rol in atherosclerosis the most important fat of the lipid profile is the LDL . Sometimes it is difficult to lower the triglycerides to normal levels but more important we have to lower the ldl. When triglycerides are in the thousands they cause acute pancreatitis. Medicines that lower triglycerides and LDL interact to dangerouse levels, so we prioritize to lower ldl.

doc precribed lipitor (atorvastatin) 20mg for my "bit too high" cholesterol over the last 3 yrs(at least).why're so many (-)ve reviews about the med?

Wrong: Unless you have diabetes, established heart or vascular disease,  or a familial syndrome wih extremely elevated cholesterol, a 28 year old should not be on drug therapy for their cholesterol. Lipitor (atorvastatin) is an excellent medicine, but like all medicines, it's not right for everybody.
