Not directly: Symptoms of interstitial cystits include lower abdominal pain relieved with urination, an urge to urinate and frequent urination. Dark yellow urine is more likely due to lack of fluid intake and concentrated urine. If a person were to limit fluids in hope of decreasing bladder pain and frequency it would result in dark urine. It would not however, be directly due to the cystitis.

in my 40s. recurring rbc in urine for years.  urologist recommended cystoscopy. is it really necessary at this point since it's been yrs? if it cancer, wouldn't i have known it by now? can interstitial cystitis cause this? would prefer to avoid test?

Risk/Benefit equaton: Hematuria, is a term used to describe blood in the Urine; it can be visible to the eye(then called Gross) or invisible to the naked eye(then called microscopic hematuria).
It seems, you have microscopic hematuria which can, sometimes be benign but we need to know the duration(number of years) and number of red blood cells(RBC) in your urine tests. Then we can guide you further.

: Sterile pyuria (leukocyturia) is typical for interstitial cystitis not lone hematuria. The urine dipstick is positive for occult blood does not always mean true hematuria. I am curious why your partner has checked urine so often.

Nitrites sign of UTI: Nitrite testing is thus to demonstrate bacteria in the urine & will be negative in subjects with interstitial cystitis unless they also have a urinary tract infection. Symptoms are something that you feel, &  symptoms of ic are similar to utis, ie urinary frequency and bladder or pelvic pain. Microscopic hematuria (blood in urine) in absence of a UTI & negative urinary nitrites could be sign of ic.

Hematuria: its to find out if the source of blood in urine is kidneys or bladder. You just ask for microscopic exam of urine. RBCs  from kidney in the urine are deformed or form castes or rouleaux. It's not so if the source of those red blood cells is bladder.

See below: Yes it can, it depends on the cause.You need to see a urologist though to have a look into the urinary bladder to make sure you do not have any other  problems inside the bladder causing blood to appear in the urine.
