Outside USA - YES: Carbimazole is not marketed in the usa (outside of the usa).  Methimazole is equivalent to carbimazole and that is the preferred therapy in the usa.

Hyperthyroidism: Hi. Carbimazole (or its active metabolite, methimazole) can be used to treat hyperthyroidism (Graves' or hyper nodule(s)). It will NEVER cure hyper nodules, although it can control them indefinitely. There is a chance of curing Graves' disease, although the cure rate is only on the order of 50% after 2 years of treatment. As long as thee no adverse side effects, the drug can be used indefinitely.

taken carbimazole and ptu (propylthiouracil) in the past for my thyroid, but they are not improving my condition, is there any other anti- thyroid drugs i can take?

Methimazole is also: Available and then there is radioiodine -- but any of the antithyroid drugs will work if taken at adequate doses for long enough to deplete stored up, previously manufactured, thyroid hormone. Check w/your doctor.

Yes for carbimazole: You should stop carbimazole at least 3 days before radioactive iodine treatment but should continue propanolol.

i have graves disease & was put on carbimazole 30mg in dec & now they are lowering to 20mg as my thyroid function is now near enough normal but i feel like im gaining a lot of weight i cant shift, is this normal?

Check level: A follow up visit and rechecking your thyroid function is suggested. A healthy well balanced diet and exercise daily is recommended.

i have very overactive thyroid. just wondering can it cause muffled hearing. im very very anxious and scared everyday. also can it cause syncope? i get this aswell sometimes. and tingling. have started carbimazole 40mg?

Hyperthyroidism can be associated with tingling, possible syncope espeically if associated with an abnormal heart rate and anxiety. Initial dose of carbimazole is 20-60 mg in 2-3 divided doses https://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/4267/smpc#gref.  f/u /w/MD

Not normal: No this is not normal. I doubt that you feel normal. You should see your doctor, preferably an endocrinologist, immediately so that your medication can be adjusted. Both surgery and radiation are also treatment options for your condition. Feel better.

Thyroid problem: The lump on your neck may not necessarily be related to your thyroid or if it is, it may need to be looked at as far what kind of lump it is especially if it's been growing. Carbimazole is used to treat thyroid hyperfunction but not necessarily suitable to treat thyroid lumps. Your doc may look into the possibility of having a biopsy done of it.

i have a rash on my neck, face, and wrists. raised bumps, very itchy. im taking 50mg of carbimazole daily  could it be the cause?

Accepted Answer

: Skin rash is a know side effect of carbimazole. However, you should not stop taking the medication without talking to the doctor who prescribed it. It also requires taking more history and physical examination to ascertain the cause of the rash. It would be prudent to see your doctor.

2 different ways: Hypothyroid includes weight gain, slower mental processes, fatigue, constipation, reduced menstruation...  Hyperthyroid includes weight loss, shakiness, elevated blood pressure, rapid heart rate, feeling hot....  See your doctor or endocrinologist.
