is 60mg famotidine a day safe ie 40mg am and 20mg pm. if so, is it better to take the 40mg at night or morning? i take it in the morning as food eaten during the day and at night i also add gaviscon advance. whats your opinion?

: It really depends on what you are treating. If your GI doctor recommends this dose to treat either ulcer disease or reflux, then the dose is ok, especially if it is short-term to treat ulcer disease. There can be long-term side effects so you want to follow up with the GI doctor and hopefully stop the medicine or reduce the dose when the  condition you are treating has resolved. Good luck!

can hiprex cause acid reflex as i already have barretts and take famotidine and gaviscon advance.. gp not sure?

Should be fine: Hiprex should not cause acid reflux typically, in some people it can cause nausea or upset stomach. If after taking it for a few days you do notice any worsening of acid reflux then stop it and it should resolve but it should be safe.

i have barretts and my gp has prescribed famotidine and gaviscon advance due to the risk of stomach cancer with omeprazole. ultimately it is my choice which to take. which is most aggressive - oesophageal or stomach cancer?

: Barret's esophagus can be a precursor to esophageal cancer.  I is best treated with sitting upright for at least 4 hours following your meals, avoid liquids prior to reclining.  Omeprazole is good to take in AM and 4 PM .  Gaviscon Liquid 30cc. at bedtime.  Follow up with your PCP for assistance.

2.3 mmol (53mg) in 5ml spoon for reflux if i take 6 spoonfuls a day am i exceeding daily salt ?

No: With no hypertension, heart or kidney disease, such a healthy individual can tolerate 2000-3000 grams of salt  or more daily.

i take 20 mg of lisinopril for hi bp. i also have gerd and take gaviscon advance before bedtime, and occasionally after dinner too. the gaviscon has potassium hydrogen carbonate. can the combo of these two meds cause a hi blood potassium level?

Safety: Obviously the fda found that the claims made by the company selling the brand did not meet the stringent expectations required for safety and efficacy in the us. Find an alternative.

Probably not: It is common to use a drug like ranitidine with an antacid like gaviscon. As with most drugs, antacids - especially those with aluminum- can bind certain other drug sand reduce absorption don;t know if you're taking any other meds so i would separate the Gaviscon and other meds by at least 1-2 hours.

can a type 1 diabetic take a gaviscon double action sachet?

Pharmacist: Check with your pharmacist as I believe that gaviscon tablets contain sugar while the liquid preparation doesn't. Gaviscon  also may affect the way that your body absorbs oral medications. Here, timing of taking gaviscon and oral medications is important. Of course your injectable medications aren't affected.
