i take doxycycline hyclate 2x100mg/day with food. one in the morning and one at night. what would be the ideal schedule if i wake up at 5:30am?

Doesn't matter: Just take it twice a day, at least 6-8 hours apart. Other details, including time of day, don't matter.

Not a good idea: Doxycycline can cause changes in the bone structure of a developing fetus.  Discuss with the doctor who is planning to give this to you if you need to combat an infection - discuss alternatives for treatment.

OK with food: Doxycycline absorption from the intestinal tract is not significantly affected by food. In fact, patients often are instructed to take it with food, to prevent symptoms like yours.

Seven days: The recommended treatment is twice daily for seven days.  If you only have 10 pills, take one tablet twice a day until gone.  You should also be checked for gonorrhea, HIV and syphilis, if you haven't been tested already, and you should notify anyone that you've had unprotected sex with that they should get tested also.

periods r long, i think cuz i'm fat, so dr rx'd cryselle. i take doxycycline hyclate b.i.d. too; i heard d.h. can cause spotting while on ocp & i have been spotting. shud i stop ocp & just lose weight

Better to continue: Losing weight may be healthy but the spotting is  only a nuisance and the benefit of shortening your periods is probably agood reason to stay on the ocp.

Not at the same time: Tetracycline tends to combine (chelate) with most hormone products rendering them less effective. If you need to use Plan B you must not have used Tetracycline for at least 8 hours prior to allow Plan B to be absorbed. Plan B, under ideal circumstances still has a "failure rate".

Yes: assuming on doxy for acne and now have some sort of upper respiratory infection.  As long as not allergic to amoxicillin it is OK.  Always tell your doctor what meds you take.

Depends on disease: For an acute infection , one should not be getting worse 48 hours after beginning med.  For chronic infection may take a little longer to see clear improvement.

You should speak with your doctor about why you were prescribed this medication.
