Safe but: No reason to avoid, but I'd might consider cold preparations with DM.  In most states, have to sign for those but what I'd recommend.

No: No such a good idea to take a drug in the phenothiazine family after head injury as it lowers seizure threshold. Wait a couple if months.

Accepted Answer

Rest: Rest your injured brain to allow it to heal. If you stress your brain with physical activity, too little sleep, or cognitive stress (schoolwork, reading, or learning) you can make your injury worse. Avoid being hit in the head while still injured, it will make your injury much worse.  Once symptoms are gone, you may gradually return to activities under a plan developed with your doctor.

Post concussive : After a concussion it is not unusual to have some persistent headache, dizziness, vertigo or general malaise.  So long as the symptoms are getting better slowly, I wouldn't worry too much.  If increased activity worsens the symptoms, slow down and see if doing a little less helps improve your symptoms.  It may take 4-6 weeks to get back to normal. If you are getting worse, go see your doctor!!

When to sleep: You should be evaluated by a physician after experiencing a concussion.  If there is no evidence of bleeding within the skull or brain or significant swelling, and your mental status returns to normal, ask your physician when he will permit sleep.  This is usually 4-6 hours after the concussion.

Yes: A concussion is a "bruise" to the brain.  Depending upon the severity and if there is any brain swelling or pressure change in the skull, symptoms can vary widely.  It's a good idea to stay in contact with your doctor or neurologist after a head injury to watch for new symptoms but it may take weeks to recover.

Up to 6 weeks: In general, the symptoms of concussion may take up to 6-8 weeks to go away. Intermittent headaches may occur as may other symptoms like dizziness, nausea, sensitivity to light or sound, difficulty concentrating. The overall trend however is one of continued improvement. If the headaches or symptoms persist you should have an evaluation by a physician.

Head injury: Yes I would see the doctor as soon as possible.   Headache is one of those symptoms after a head injury that raises a flag of concern.   It maybe worth a trip to the ER for a CT scan to make sure everything is okay   Other signs you have undoubtedly been watching for are vomiting and drowsiness.  At this point I would not wait to see if they show up.  Until he is seen keep him resting.

Quite Variable: Concussions can heal in a few weeks or longer than a year.  Many factors affect healing. Factors which lengthen the time of healing are younger age, underlying adhd or learning difficulties, severity of injury, and genetics. If you are re-injured before complete healing, the time also significantly lengthens.  To promote faster healing follow your doctor's instructions and rest.
