Achilles tendonitis: Yes biking is acceptable exercise.  Eccentric contraction or elongation of the gastrocnemius muscle that your achilles' tendon attaches to can help and if done on a bike is typically safe.  Be sure to stretch out the calf both the gastrocnemius and soleus and ice along with nsaids can help.

No: Check if you got an antibiotic  like  Cipro (ciprofloxacin) or Levaquin or other quinolone recently (sseveral days, or weeks). Ocassionally pts who took any of these got Achilles tendonitis or even rupture but may affect any tendon in the body. Not common.

Depends: On the severity of the injury and the amount of swelling.  Achilles tendinitis is difficult to treat because of low blood flow through the tendon above the insertion to the heel called the watershed area. Ruptures usually occur at this location.  If not severe, it takes 4 weeks to heal with rest and ice and physical therapy.  If there is a bulbous swelling of the tendon it can take months to heal.

Get examined: Pain in the back of the heel towards the back of the leg is where achilles tendonitis occurs, but are you sure that's what you are dealing with?  Get examined properly.  Xrays can infer position of soft tissue but mainly highlight bone.  To examine the achilles, an MRI would be warranted to check for damage - even a longitudinal tear which can be very subtle but result in lingering pain.

Swim: Achilles tendonitis can be aggravated with running, walking, stairmaster, aerobic exercises. Swimming is an excellent way to get cardio exercise in while not stressing the achilles tendon.

Tendonitis: Tendonitis is a term used to describe inflammation of a tendon.  Achilles tendonitis therefore is inflammation of the achilles tendon.  Tendinopathy is a general term for problems with a tendon.

You can but...: You sure can run, but will you run as well as you would like to, I am not sure. If your Achilles tendonitis is untreated, you might aggravate it even worse by running. I'd recommend that you get some physical therapy to get it under control and once it's improved, you may go back to running and other routine.

Maybe: Achilles tendinitis has many causes.  If the tendon is inflammed, potential activity modification, icing, anti-inflammatory medication, stretching, and shoe inserts may be helpful.

Probably not: Try a recumbent bike but stop if it causes increased pain.
