Plugged gland: A stye is essentially a plugged oil gland.  The stye may be 'popped' through the skin surface, but if the natural duct of the oil gland is still clogged, the stye will return.

I suppose: The relief of the built-up pressure in the style, once drained, feels better &amp; less pressure. Like a pimple on one's face, when popped, do you really hear it pop?  I don't think so. As with sties, the only noise that I usually hear are those of pain, but not from the "popping" of the sty itself.

DON'T pop stye.: Microwave a clean potato with the skin on for four minutes.  Wet a wash cloth or small towel with warm or hot water. Squeeze out the excess water and wrap it around the potato. Apply this to the eye lid until it cools down (about 15minutes). This can be repeated intermittently. Please see your ophthalmologist if no improvement.

Don't pop.Can lead: to infection.Use a microwaved wash rag(not to hot) and apply several times a day.Wash lids with baby shampoo when bathing.If doesn't go away in a few wks,then see eye MD.

Not normally : Sties can very commonly recur, but the goals of management are to lessen this. Sometimes sties arise from chronically rubbing the eyelids, as in allergy prone individuals. Sometimes they arise from a variety of differing host factors like genetics, fair complexion, contact lens wearers, rosacea, etc. Helpful ideas are to avoid rubbing the eyelids and use warm compresses and gentle eyelid massages.
