Culture: The only way you can identify MRSA is with a culture.  You should see a dermatologist for a specific diagnosis.
Certainly, a culture will identify if a bacterial organism is present and what antibiotic is specific for it.

Sometimes as fast as: 3 to 4 days. Your doctor can prescribe valtrex (valacyclovir). Melissa officinalis or lemon balm (cream) has been shown in european studies to help expedite healing of cold sores. It can reduce healing time by half. Studies also show regular use can help v recurrences. Brief supplementation w lysine 1, 000mg orally 3x a day at onset, can also hasten healing. Your dermatologist can also provide laser treatment.

got my first cold sore three weeks ago and it's not going away. i've tried abreva, zyclovir, etc. should i let it dry out naturally, or keep it moist?

Cold sore: Keep it gently moist. Continue azyclovir. Make sure you do not have a bacterial infection like impetigo. This may require a check up.

Oral herpes, cankers: Are you sure cold sores (oral herpes)? Herpes usually is outside of lips, usually near the same spot each time. Painful sores in the mouth are canker sores, not herpes. There usually are no obvious triggers, but either herpes or cankers can follow other infections, like colds, flu, etc (hence the names &quot;cold sore&quot; and &quot;fever blister&quot; for herpes). Effective treatments available; ask pediatrician.

i had a cold sore for three weeks and i don't know if it's healed yet. it's still a bit red but i'm thinking maybe it's just a scar. is it contagious?

Less contagious.: Most of these are HSV1 and most adults already have it without any symptoms. So whoever you kiss either has it or will get it anyway. You shed viruses periodically so you might transmit it between attacks, but you are most contagious at the beginning of a sore.

Not a cold sore: Cold sores occur on the outside of the mouth/borders of lips, not in the mouth and are caused by the herpes virus. Canker sores, which are not caused by the herpes virus occur in the mouth, and are typically painful. This could just be an enlarged tongue papilla, which is common and not a problem. Have your doctor check it to be sure.

i have had three small pimple like bumps on my bottom lip now for like over a month now with the symptoms of a cold sore but they haven't open or grew?

Are they painful?: If they are not painful they may be small cysts called milia. They can be removed by your local dermatologist and are not dangerous. Cold sores are painful.

Neither can we: You would have to be seen by a dentist in order to determine what you have and whether or not it's related to your recently dental treatment. It could be accidental abrasions, canker sores of something else.

i had my teeth cleaned three days ago at the dentist. i never had a cold sore before, i have a canker sore now but i accidentally popped it when i touched it, it bled and now it looks like a small pimple. is it possible it's my primary outbreak?
