Yes: Taking Iron supplements can result in stool changing to a dark color. This is normal. You may notice that you are becoming constipated. If so try using a stool softener.

i got prescribed iron tablets, ferrous fumarate 330 mg, folic acid b12 and vitamin c. my iron level is 26, ferritin 4.4. blood in hemolysis. meantime i can barely walk and my glucose drop fast. will the iron tablets help? are they safe?

: You have severe iron deficiency so ferrous fumarate should help and it's safe to use. In the first couple months you need at least 2-3 tablets of that iron pill a day. I do not understand what you mean by "blood in hemolysis". In hemotytic anemia, ferritin is rarely that low. i was talking an anti malaria tablet which i found out is a folic acid antagonist  before i knew i was pregnant can this harm my baby?

Yes, it's possible: Low Folic Acid levels in the first weeks after conception increases the risk of a baby having neural tube defects. I hope & pray your baby hasn't been adversely affected but there is increased risk, esp, if you were not taking Folic Acid or folate (folic acid) in early pregnancy. Folic acid: Chances are your physician prescribed a product with both folic acid and iron and is asking you not to take additional folic acid.  If the iron bill he/she gave you has 1.1mg of folic acid, that's all you need.  Most women need between 0.4mg and 1mg of folic acid.

Don't understand: folvite  is folic acid - a B vitamin.

Meat and leafy vegs: B12 is found in red meat, and liver
folic acid is best found in leafy vegetables. 

Iron is best found in red meat- if you want the iron that is best absorbed.

Non heme iron which is not as well absorbed is also found in leafy vegetables like spinach.

Yes: Just about every prenatal vitamin has zinc, Folic Acid ; iron. These are perfectly safe to take during pregnancy.

No, ma'am: Women with a family history of neural tube defects like spina bifida have been advised to take that higher dose for many years, but some obstetricians use the higher dose in their general population these days.
