is it safe to give an 8-year-old child ibuprofen every night for sleep aid?

Accepted Answer

Not really.: Reason is that Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory medication and not a sleep medication.  It is probably safe for nightly use, but my concern is, "what are you treating?" i would stop using it and make sure that his sleeplessness is not from an area of chronic pain.

Fever: The issue really is not which fever reducer is ok to use. A baby of that age should not be treated for a fever that won't go away without knowing why? Have her evaluated by a pediatrician. :)

Duration : Aleve has a longer duration of action. Apply local heat to the affected area.

For most people: Is your kidney function normal? Have you ever had stomach bleeding? Do you take aspirin? Other meds? Probably your pain control will be just as good at twice a day.

Medication: Some doctors will prescribe the use ofboth drugs so that you take one or the other over 6 hours, that is, one or the other every three hours for elevated temp.
