i did not get my period during inactive pills. this has never happened before. technically, i should have gotten my period about a week ago. i tested for pregnancy this morning and its negative. is it too early to test? have mild cramps for a week?

: Your period is probably delayed this month and there is always a first time, i.e. never say never. Urine pregnancy test should be positive after missing period for 7 days if conception has occurred. If you do not have period within the next 3 days, you can redo urine test with an early morning urine sample.

Depends on why: It depends on why you started the bleeding. If it was because you had missed pills them there is some risk. If this is your first package or if you have an infection there is less risk. Taking 2 pills shortly before sex will not protect you but can help you get back on track if you missed one. If you miss pills, you should also use condoms for the rest of that package.

Birth Control Pills: I believe there is a small risk of pregnancy during the early days of taking bcps.  I don't know the brand you are on so cannot comment farther, but your pharmacist may know more specifically.

Basically yes: That is how birth control pills work. Anytime you think you are pregnant you can always take a home test. If you are not confident in your birth control pill consider methods like a Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud or nexplanon. These are great options for teenagers.

Sometimes, yes: The tri-phasic and 20 microgram estrogen pill types  of oral contraceptives previously had very  little tolerance for missing pills and some of them actually had a very small dosage of hormones in the "inactive" pills to facilitate the ensuing period.  Thus, if a patient did not take the "inactive" pills and did not immediately re-start the active pills "on time" pregnancy resulted.

Contraception: I am not sure that I am tracking with your question. However, if you inconsistently  take birth control it can increase you chances of becoming pregnant (over consistent use of oral contraceptives).

Yes: Yes because no oral contraception or other form of protection is 100% effective. If you don't have a back up plan for the first month on oral contraceptives it may not provide full protection.
