NPO: Means nothing by mouth. Iv sedation is usually recommended to minimize any discomfort. 
Hence, npo for 6-8 hours before surgery. You are not allowed to eat or drink anything, not even water, for those 6 hours preceding colonscopy. You can brush your teeth, don’t swallow any water.

will drinking gatorade help with leg pain and lower back pain after a colonoscopy ? being that the prep depletes fluids in your body.

Maybe unrelated : Back and leg pain are not something typically related to the procedure, by if you're dehydrated from the prep, Gatorade can help rehydrate you, and possibly help alleviate our symptoms.bthey may however be unrelated. Its easy enough to try! Hope this helps.

i am having a colonoscopy tomorrow at 7:30am.  i am drinking the gatoraid/miralax but i am still not satisfied.  can i eat applesauce or pudding?

Not satisfied.: Most hate the stuff. I would just drink some water. The other stuff may confuse those looking at you colon and you will have to do it again.  May not want to do that.

Yes: In fact, most facilities where colonoscopies are performed, will make sure that you can handle some liquids/solid food before you leave.

: Probably you have written instructions about what you can and cannot eat and drink in the 1-2 days or so before the procedure. Usually only clear liquids are permitted, which does not include Ensure (unless they have a clear product that I don't know). Follow your instructions carefully:  you do not want to get half way through a colonoscopy that cannot be completed and must be done again!

Water and salts: Generally most colon preps are made of water and a mix of salts to both replace those expected to be washed out by the prep, but also to make it "neutral", so your body chemistry will not change much with the large volumes of fluid ingested. Substances to change the taste are also generally used too, although most peolpe still say it tastes terrible :(.

Probably yes: The usual dictum has been to remain on clear liquids the day before a colonoscopy exam. However, not uncommonly do we perform a colonoscopy on these patients and only find this out afterwards and usually the bowel preps are regarded as adequate.  Please discuss this issue with your performing colonoscopist before doing so however.

: This would likely be fine-you can take a small amount of water to take your medicines before any procedure, including a colonoscopy. Take the minimum amount of water needed to take the medicine. Good luck to you!

my husband is prepping for a colonoscopy tomorrow morning, he is drinking the go lyte stuff and is feeling like he is going to puke. any suggestions?

: Drink it a bit more slowly. Is he passing all liquid stool yet? If yes, he is on the right track since some liquid stool can be removed during the procedure. If he begins vomiting, call the GI doctor who is on call for further instruction-if his stool is all liquid, the doctor may advise stopping the prep. Best of luck to both of you!

i have a colonoscopy tomorrow at 1:30 pm. i'm unable to finish the last 32oz of golytley. gagging)can i finish the prep using mirilax and gatorade? .

Almost equivalent: miralax (polyethylene glycol) is same ingredient of golytely, but mixing with gatorade would change the special salt/sugar balance of the lavage. making cold, or even squeezing a bit of lemon may take the unpleasant sea-water effect of golytely too.  Equally important is what you have been eating before the lavage - no solids and definitely no roughage like fruits and veggies. See how clear stools are becoming.
