NPO: Means nothing by mouth. Iv sedation is usually recommended to minimize any discomfort. Hence, npo for 6-8 hours before surgery. You are not allowed to eat or drink anything, not even water, for those 6 hours preceding colonscopy. You can brush your teeth, don’t swallow any water. Hope it makes sense.

Yes: The day before the procedure, i believe they put you on a clear liquid diet while taking the cathartic. After midnight, they may put you off any food except water until after the procedure. So until the day before the procedure the gatorade of any flavor is ok.
