Staph: No. But it promotes staph infections since most staph now are resistant to neosporin and this product should be thrown away and never used again.

 Apply a good and thick moisturizer 2 x a day to the area, eg Cetaphil to keep it lubricated .

: Yes polymyxin b does have activity against pseudomonas.  Bacitracin has activity against other skin bacteria such as staph. This makes neosporin or the equivalent store brand a good option for minor skin infections.  If the wound is clean and doesn’t appear infected (not red, hot, swollen) then just washing it with soap and water should be fine.  If infected then apply 3 x per day. Leave open some

Blisters : Blisters are worrisome on the genitals because they can be caused by the herpes virus. Herpes is sexually transmitted. There are treatment options available. You need to see your doctor for a complete evaluation and testing to get a diagnosis. If it is herpes the lesions will resolve in 5 to 7 days. The bottom line is to see a doctor even if the blisters have resolved, a blood test can be done to make a diagnosis or you may be dealing with something else entirely.

Occlusion: Neosporin has antibacterial and no antifungal activity which can alter your skin / mucous membrane normal flora.  Normal flora competes for space, food and binding sites with invaders.  If the normal flora is wiped out the yeast can flourish.  As well, the occlusive nature of the ointment can allow a warm moist environment for the yeast organisms...Making them happy campers.

Either one is: Ok, but main thing is adequate drainage and mechanical cleansing, systemic antibiotics if necessary.  Topical ointment is probably of much lesser significance.  Ask your surgeon to be sure.
