Sure: I don't see why not but  you may consider a topical steroid per your doctor and investigate what is causing the rash (food,medinces etc)

Calamine lotion: Calamine is used to help with itching associated with topical allergies, insect bites and such.  The medication is effective for around 3-6 hours after application.  It is recommended you remove it after that time to avoid dryness and pluging of your pores if you have tendency to have acne in the area you applied it.

I don't advise it: I probably just find the stuff revolting because of the smell but don't find it helpful. I think it drys the skin too much & leads to other pbs. I do recommend benedryl lotion applies as needed and an occasional oatmeal bath to deal with the itching.

Calamine & Sal Acid: The combination of both topical medications can cause increased dryness or irritation. I would not recommend it.

Not really.: Best treatment for eczema would be avoidance of ALL irritants, regular moisturizing with a bland agent and application of topical steroids (strength dependent upon location and severity of rash) as needed.

: First of all, I don’t know why you are applying calamine lotion.  I would not take a bath after applying lotion.  You will wash it off.  Take the bath, then apply.

Steroid side effects: Calamine usually does not cause skin side effects other than irritation in rare cases. Steroids can cause skin atrophy, lightening of the skin and stretch marks from overuse. Discuss these and other potential side effects with your physician.

Evaluation: In a young child, with the recent fever especially, i would recommend taking him in to see his doctor...Rashes may just be a reaction to the virus, or it could be something more serious, best to have your baby checked!

OK: But why calamine? If you have significant acne, neither will  do much. A prescription is probably your best chance to control this.

Maybe: I find calamine excessively drying &amp; stinky &amp; never use it. It takes 5-7 days for most CP lesions to dry regardless of what you use. The primary goal is to keep the sites clean &amp; observe for possible invasion/infection by simple skin germs. As long as the sites are free from localized infection I would manage this at home. A visit just exposes more kids/adults to active disease.
