Not usually: Occasionally, hypothyroidism is caused by a temporary condition such as thyroiditis, or inflammation of the thyroid gland.  Such cases usually do resolve, and the thyroid goes back to making normal amounts of thyroid hormone.  Most of the time, however, the thyroid gland makes less and less thyroid hormone over time, and lifelong treatment with thyroid hormone is needed.

Theoretically.: Would be very rare as the symptoms generally bring patients to attention before they are not reversible.  Hypothyroidism can contribute to death from other causes such as heart failure.

VERY INEXPENSIVE: The most common meds (synthroid, ect.) Cytomel (liothyronine) and armour should be very inexpensive, since they have been off patent for many years. Specially compounded thyroid meds can be quite costly.

Absolutely: Thyroid hormone is very important for the development of the child, both physically and mentally.  If you suspect hypothyroidism in your child, bring him/her to the pediatrician to have a blood draw.  Treat it if hypothyroidism is confirmed.

Possibly: There are some temporary causes for hypothyroidism (subacute thyroiditis, early hashimoto's thyroiditis, iodine deficiency).  If your thyroid level was initially only mildly low (tsh was only mildly elevated), you could have had a temporary cause.  If thyroid levels are currently normal off medication, and you still have symptoms, you need to look for a different cause for those symptoms.

No: It generally stays stable or worsens, it can, however, be treated vey efficiently by the proper amount of brand name T4 replacement with a daily safe and inexpensive pill. Check with your doctor.

Big spectrum: Thyroid hormones are some of the most important hormones in the body.  People with low thyroid cane experience symptoms of: fatigue, sensitive to cold, dry skin, constipation, hoarse voice, weight gain, high cholesterol, muscle ache/weakness, joint pain, heavy periods, brittle nails/hair, depression... In severe cases, especially in the older population, hypothyroidism can lead to a coma/death.

Not directly: Hypothyroidism does not directly cause vitiligo, but both are autoimmune conditions (caused by antibodies), so vitiligo is somewhat more common in people who are hypothyroid than in those who are not.
