The pap smears done to screen for cervical cancer were in common use for decades before we understood a link to HPV. Clearing the primary infection does not mean risk is gone.

Monitor: All strains of HPV have the ability to persist in your body for life.The primary infection usually clears in immune competent people but the strain can reactivate in the future. Strains 16/18 are not the only strains linked to future complications. Regular surveillance visits will be necessary to pick these up early in a treatable stage if they occur.

Continue MD exams: CIN I is the earliest stage of abnormality. If the sub types of HPV are 16, 18(high risk) then your GYN MD will need to see you frequently to make sure that this does not progress. Sometimes CIN I actually reverses itself back to normal without any treatment whatsoever.

: Define "clearing" in your definition. People with a normal immune system will "clear" the initial HPV infection to the point they do not spread it. It is a virus from a family of viruses well known for the ability to hibernate in the human system indefinitely. Such issues as cervical cancer may never emerge as a result, or occur years or decades later.

: The subtypes of HPV have different potential effects on normal tissue covering the cervix.  The problems with several "high risk types" are transformation to abnormal cells and eventual cancer. Both types can eventually become suppressed by your body's immune system, but if a high risk type is found on a pap smear, immediate treatment is recommended, avoiding cancer risk.

Local and work: Regulations. Quarantine is now in many places 10 days, from previously 14 days. Some institutions require a negative test to return to work, while others do not. If you wonder if you developed antibodies after being exposed, a blood test may answer that question.
