hi, i have emetophobia so when i get loose stools i worry that i will get gastro. what are some other causes for loose stools?  i did have slightly spicy food for dinner last night and i also am lactose intolerant.

my 2 year old keeps vomiting.she is fine in herself. no temp, no diarrhoea & tummy doesn't hurt.could it be a food intolerance or more likely a virus?

Most likely a virus: The most common reason for vomiting in children is related to viral infection. The difference would be that if it is viral , you would not expect it to last but 1-3 days. If vomiting persists beyond that, then consider other causes such as food intolerance , gastric reflux, uti, etc. At that point i would take her to the doctor.

i get cramps and diarrhea when i eat bell pepper, recently i experienced the same symptoms when eating fresh jalapeo. is it a food group intolerance?

Food intolerance: Given your history it does sound like there is a correlation of your symptoms to that vegetable class. If you have no other symptoms and you can reproduce these symptoms when eating peppers then I would avoid peppers. If not you should see your doctor.

Need a GI doctor: If you have blood anywhere in the GI system you need to see a GI doctor. A gastroenterologist can examine you and diagnose and then treat your problems best.

Maybe: Diahrrea means there is too much water content in the stool. It is frequently infectious but at times it is not. Make sure you clean and dry hands carefully b4 eating. Use Purell. Eat BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apple sauce, toast) to help firm up stool. Take Loperide (Imodium) to slow down peristalsis.

Seafood: Risk of seafood contamination with bacterial organisms exist.    Any number or organisms can be a culprit.  Salmonella, shigella, campylobaacter, e.Coli for starters.

No: Lack of fiber usually causes constipation.  Avoidance of gluten is recommended for people who have celiac disease.  Gluten intolerance is a controversial term.

Diarrhea: Almost any food can cause diarrhea if it is consumed in large quantities or the body is not used to it.  Additionally spices or hot peppers or hot sauces can cause diarrhea in some people.  We have all heard the term travelers diarrhea.  This is not always an infection but a reaction to new foods the body is not used to.
