hello docs. i was wondering can wellbutrin, (bupropion) elavil, and lexapro be used together?

I would not prescrib: I would not  prescribe the combo, since I am straining trying to think why three antidepressants would be necessary. Risks are serotonin syndrome from Elavil and lexapro, (escitalopram) qtc interval prolongation  with Lexapro (escitalopram) and Elavil which can lead to a fatal arrhythmia and which would require serial ekg monitoring, lowering of the seizure threshold by all three. Please discuss this with your prescribing physician.

my dr put me on 10mg elavil a tricylic antidepressants.i am lexapro (escitalopram) 20mg and remeron 30.mg. i suffer from g a d.are these o k together. thanks?

Not recommended...: The Mirtazapine (Remeron) is fine. Elavil (amitriptyline) oral and Lexapro or escitalopram oral both increase affecting serotonin levels in the blood. Too much serotonin is a potentially life-threatening situation. Severe signs and symptoms include high blood pressure and increased heart rate that lead to shock.

Combo: U are on 3 antidepressants and 2 anxiety meds.  Best to review with your prescribing doctor.

Accepted Answer

Caution: While the 10 mg dose of Elavil is low, combining with Lexapro (escitalopram) increases the risk for serotonin syndrome and  irregular heart rhythm. Also you are taking two antidepressants. If Lexapro (escitalopram) is not working, discuss with prescribing doctor to consider trying Elavil alone or another class of antidepressant. Be sure you have careful medical supervision while on these meds. I hope this helps.

Drug Interactions: Elavil (amitriptyline) + Wellbutrin (bupropion) ^ es seizure risk. Escitalopram +amitriptyline  ^'es risk of serotonin syndrome.  Wellbutrin + Lexapro ^es seizure risk. I am assuming that the Elavil is added in for insomnia or pain control and not for depression/ anxiety.  This does not mean that these drugs can't be used together but there are possible drug interactions. D/W your physician.

i was taking remeron for 2 weeks.i had terrible anger and irritability.today the dr gave me elavil.should i have weaned off lexapro (escitalopram) which i was on yr?

Maybe: Weaning depends on dosing of both Elavil and Lexapro (escitalopram).  Too high dosing could result in serotonin syndrome.

i have been diagnosed with functional dyspepsia. i have morning nausea, lower abdomen burning and loss of appetite. i tried amitriptyline but it made me sleep 18+ hours. i tried noritriptyline and lexapro not compatible. any meds i should ask my doc?

: What was dose of Amitriptyline prescribed. I generally start that at 10 mg if that makes you sleepy cut the tablet in half.
Give it few days and somnolence clears.

can you take elavil (amitriptyline) and minocycline together??

Should be alright: Yes, you should be able to safely take these together.  However, elavil (amitriptyline) is often used to help treat headaches, and minocycline tends to cause headaches.  Good luck!

Medication effects: Elavil (amitriptyline) is a medication for Depression and Ativan for Anxiety.
Using Elavil (amitriptyline) with Ativan may increase dizziness, confusion, difficulty concentrating, impairment in thinking, and judgment.

Consider taking one medication at a time.

Therapy with Medication is more beneficial.
