my age is 18yrs, my blood test reports are not normal, i crave for ice, is eating ice cubes harmful for me? what can i do to avoid my cravings?

Craving ice cubes: Often times this is a sign that you may be anemic/iron deficient.  You said that your lab tests were abnormal.  Did your doctor tell you that your blood count was low.  My suggestion if this is the case is to take a good multivitamin with iron.  This may help with this and please followup with your dr.

i doc since i reach 40 i eat ice like 3 or 4 times for the day even if i am full, cold or even in the early morning  is this really harmful?

Ice: No this should cause no harm however ice is just water  I would suggest that drinking water would be easier to do

Yes: I have had several patients who keep breaking their teeth and their crowns from habitually chewing on ice. Do it at your own peril.

No: It's not harmful.

Accepted Answer

Interesting ?: If you are choosing to chew ice as a substitute for getting the recommended amount of water you need everyday, that should be okay. However, chewing ice, or specifically craving the chew ice, is often associated with iron deficiency anemia. So, if you feel like you need to do it, you might want to bring it up with your doctor to see if you need to be tested for this.

does icing my testicles almost every night have any risks of being harmful? i have pain/discomfort 24/7 going on for years with no doctors being able to find anything so i have to use ice packs when symtoms get worse?

: Have you seen a urologist (specialist in genito-urinary problems) ? Would not ice for more than 5 min. at a time.

Craving ice: craving ice or non- food items in pregnancy is called pica.  You probably are anemic.  You will need to take iron supplementation so your hemoglobin is increased which in turn increases your oxygen to your baby.

the only way i can get rid of migraines anymore is to take an ice pack and place it at the back of my neck until its numb, is that harmful to my body?

No: Some people do find that application of ice to certain areas of the head and neck region can help allevaite or reduce the severity of migraines and other headaches.  A conventional ice pack should not harm your body..

don't laugh! can putting an ice pack on my throat reduce the swelling? (i have a goiter & i hate it w/a fiery passion) could it be harmful?

Accepted Answer

No: Goiter is a growth of thyroid not a swelling. Ice is not helpful. A compressive goiter may need to be surgically remover or a layed with I-131 if causing symptoms.
