i have a baby with face eczema.  i used desonide for a week, but the eczema is back.  is something else safer or better?

Frequent Vaseline: Eczema on the body and face is in most cases transient and doesn't leave life long scars in most babies. Eczema occurs due to the skin becoming dry. Some important things to do:
1. Apply vaseline/eczema ointments 4-6 times per day
2. Use luke warm water for baths
3. Don't put soaps in the water for bathing as it leaches fat from the skin.
4. Use small amounts of  aveno baby wash/dove soap.

Sometimes: Desonide is a steroid and can attenuate allergic and inflammatory conditions of the facial skin.  Keto conazole is an anti-fungal and can be used for diagnosed treatment of facial fungus infections.  Your dermatologist can assist you in diagnosis of your facial issues and recommend the best treatment.

Chronic: Eczema is chronic and will recur.  I recommend avoiding harsh soaps which will dry the skin, use aquaphor or vanicream to protect your baby's skin throughout the day and desonide to keep it controlled, preferably no more than 3 times a week.  It gets better over time!  also, eczema makes skin more susceptible to infections so if it persists, see your dr.

: You need a visit in person for with a dermatologist or primary care doctor to get a formal diagnosis of this rash. Steroid creams may be the wrong treatment for what you are dealing with.

Trauma: Please stop the creams and steroids and products. You damaged and traumatized your skin. You have got to give this time to heal. Desonide may be the worst choice you could have made. Let it breathe and let the skin heal.

Yes: For a few days. How do you know it is an allergic reaction? Contact? Reacting to what?  Cellulitis is a serious infection, not an allergy. Best see a dermatologist.

Anti-fungal: I am concerned about the potent steroid (triamcinolone) on your eyes because it may cause further thinning of the eyelids plus other complications.  Consider seeing a dermatologist.  Topical antifungal agents have also been used with success without the problem with topical steroid on the face.

i have had red, very dry skin on one side of my face and forehead for a year. i have a derm appt in a month but can i use desonide cream until then?

Accepted Answer

Facial redness: It is not usual to have one-sided facial redness and dryness for a solid year. If you haven't been using desonide daily for the last year, then you should have no trouble using it while waiting for your appt.
