See your doctor: There are many possible explanations for your sleep/wakefulness issue.  Your pcp can address your concern and develop a treatment plan.  Anxiety, depression, or sleep disorder, as well as other problems may be causing this.  Make an appointment and get it addressed.  Best wishes!

Caffeine effect: People have different reactions to caffeine, but it is one of the factors that can aggravate anxiety, and very high caffeine intake can cause anxiety effects.

does 5 hour energy and other similar energy drinks cause bad sleep patters and panic attacks? i drink coffee and coffee never gives me those symptoms

Energy drinks: Yes, it is quite possible.  Many of these "energy drinks" contain much higher levels of caffeine than in a cup or two of coffee.  Additional ingredients may also trigger reactions in sensitive individuals.  Avoid these drinks, and consider getting some exercise (like brisk walking) if you need a brief pickup in the afternoon.  Any caffeine after 6 PM can trigger sleep problems.  Good luck!

Puzzling: Having monthly panic attacks after 40 years without is a puzzle.  In some people, caffeine and other stimulant use can certainly precipitate higher anxiety level and possibly panic.  Your additional patient information  indicates you also have insomnia, so you are not symptom-free otherwise. Please see your primary care doc for a personal review of these issues and your health.

why do i get heart palpitations and high blood pressure upon wakeing up and feel like im about to die ? sometimes it gets soo bad that my nails turn blue this especially happens when i have 1 cup of coffee the night before could this be panic attack?

: 1. BP normally increases before you wake up and get up to get you ready to get up.
2.  Blue nails: cold or what is your altitude.
3. Caffeine withdrawal depending no how much you drink the day before.
4.  If you drink a bit of alcohol at night BP, will rise in some in AM as they withdraw.  This has been noted in UK. BPs  on Monday AM ar higher than the rest of week and related to how drank at pub.

Unlikely: Levemir (insulin detemir) a long acting basal Insulin does not have know side effects of inducing panel attacks directly.  Panic attacks can be 2ndary from overwhelming emotional response that's been triggered.

Physical causes: What comes to mind is a problem with shortness of breath associated with lying flat on one's back. If you try propping up your head on several pillows, and your "spells" improve, this is likely the problem. You should see a physician for further evaluation for something called orthopnea.
