can you get cellulitis from insect bite itches when healing?

Some do some don't: If your fingernails or the skin surface is contaminated with aggressive germs, scratching a bug bite can provide an entry point for infection. Some bites like fire ants, actually inject harsh acid into the wound and is less likely to be infected than others.

i have a wasp sting from yesterday. and i'm not sure if it is spreading redness or not. it itches, is red, and is a little warm to the touch. it might be spreading in a circle around the sting very slightly, but i am worried about cellulitis. worry?

: Local reactions of warmth, swelling and redness are common after a wasp or yellow jacket or bee sting.  This is a reaction to the venom and local injury.  Cellulitis would take a couple days to take hold.  Meanwhile, apply cool wet compresses to the area and take some acetaminophen/Tylenol.  If you are able to take ibuprofen, this will help with the inflammation if taken over the next few days.

i had a epidermoid cyst removed via minimal excision plus cellulitis. the area is healing but there is dry peeling skin on wound and around it where bandage was. can i put moisturizer on it or should leave it alone? it itches a little?

Timing: Itching is a sign of healing. Would not put anything on skin till wound is at least 5-7 days old other than gentle cleaning to remove dry skin. Once that time has passed can use skin lotion or Vitamin E but still not directly on wound. Vitamin C 500mg a day, Vitamin D 2000 units per day and Zinc 30mg a day all help wound healing.

wasp sting 6-8 weeks ago. upper arm just above elbow. took a few days to settle down. now same area flared up a couple days ago. itching. a red swollen bumpy rash. warm to touch. doesnt hurt but really itches. infection  cellulitis?

: Probably not infected. However, suggest you see dermatologist to confirm and obtain the proper treatment which might be a potent topical steroid cream along with an antihistamine. You might want to soak  the affected area in ice water until seen.

severely itchy ankle.  had cellulitis 5 months ago.  no visible cause of the itching?

It could be: Residual hemisiderin deposits under the skin from the previous cellulitis. Try an anti-histamine cream to calm the itching. If it doesn't resolve In a few days then see your doctor. It could be unrelated.

i had a spider bite that turned into cellulitis. i just finished 10 days of antibiotic and it's still itching. is that normal?

: Sometimes, as something heals, it becomes itchy. As long as it is no longer red, swollen, painful, etc., it is healing. It will continue to get better now that the bacteria causing the cellulitis have been eliminated by the antibiotic. If the infection symptoms return, then contact your doctor but it should continue to heal. Good luck!

what is method to reduce pain and itching? my hot tub folliculitis has turned to cellulitis and i am on oral and i.v antibiotics. thanks

See answer: Would be reluctant to apply any pain relieving cream or anti-itch lotion on an area of cellulitis. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or OTC NSAIDS for pain. If ineffective possibly tylenol (acetaminophen) with codeine or hydrocodone...both narcotics. OTC antihistamines for itch. Benadryl, but may be sedating.(ok at bedtime). Zyrtec(cetirizine) is the strongest less sedating antihistamine.

had cellulitis. was given bactrim & keflex. 1 day left. pain, redness & swelling gone, still have marble size knot & itching. need rechecked? or no?

Cellulitis: If he course was for 10 days probably further treatment not necessary. The knots are likely lymph nodes. I would anticipate these to go away with time.

Yes, it can happen: Staph infections can cause all kinds of problems for your skin.  Even after finishing a course of medication, your lymphatic system may be damaged or may be draining away the damaged tissue from the site of infection.  It would be worthwhile to keep in close contact with your physician for areas that do not continue to improve after stopping the antibiotic therapy; you may need a 2nd course.

Cellulitis: The term literally means inflammation of the skin. Inflammation produces pain (itching is a subliminal form of pain), redness, warmth and hardness of the area. Do not know, since cannot see, what your area of involvement is, but if it does not clear up see a doctor.
