Mostly not: Most insurances will cover the cost of the basic intraocular lens for replacement of focusing. Multifocals are, from their standpoint, an expensive add on. And they will not cover the added cost.  If you want these, you will have to pay the extra $600-$1000 for the fancy lens.

Prices vary: Multifocal lenses do cost extra and are not covered by health insurance. They are not mandatory but can be very helpful if you are trying to achieve independence from glasses. The price is a combination of surgeon fees and the cost of the lens. The price is dependent on the market in the area and is variable. There's nothing wrong with price shopping.  Just make sure you go with a great surgeon..

NO HARM: I hope the cataract surgery went well!  after cataract surgery your eyes are sensitive to bright sunshine so dark sunglasses are recommended for comfort. No harm done going outside for a short period of time.

I : I agree---going off the medicine does not good.  Just let your doctor know that you are on it and he can take the necessary operative precaustions during the surgery.  Don't let this stop you from having the surgery that will improve your vision.

PCO: You may have posterior capsular opacification or secondary-cataract which can be lasered away to improve vision.  Other issues can cause foggy vision so see an eye doctor for further evaluation.

It is gradually becoming more commonplace and the available lenses are continuously being improved. Note that it is an extra personal expense not covered by insurance or medicare.  Discuss with you eye surgeon.

No change: Once you are healed up after surgery, your eye should feel normal. With the accommodative lenses, there can be some minor feeling of eye strain as the muscles strengthen to improve your reading vision.
