i've had regular bowel movements and i'm 21weeks pregnant and there's a lot of pressure on my tailbone and i feel like i have to push. is it normal?

No: It can be normal to have a pressure sensation in the pelvis during pregnancy, but I would want you to share this with your doctor. She/he may consider doing a cervical length to make sure there's been no cervical shortening and to make sure placenta in normal position.  More information/reassurance is needed so you can know this is 'normal' amount of pressure

Rectal Xame 4 coccyx: pain very diagnostic. Sounds gross but MD is able 2 grab the coccyx with the index finger in the rectum &amp; the thumb on the outside. If this is done, and the coccyx is wiggled it would B very painful. I would get a 2nd opinion.

Yes: When you break you tail bone that cause a lot of pain when you trying to have bm. To overcome that you could pain medication and stool softener and sits bath915 min in warm water, trying to relax those muscle in that area.

Unlikely: If you have a coccyx that is curved in, then short of any injury/fracture it has probably been that way since you were born.  So unless you have always had problems, it is probably from another cause.  Consider further work up.

can a broken or fractured coccyx cause any changes to your bowel movements?

Accepted Answer

Yes and no: It will not directly cause a change in bowel movements, however, patients may try to avoid or postpone going do to pain.  Occasionally the use of a stool softener will make it less painful when you go.

Doubtful: Spina bifida occulta is usually just a failure of the arch of the most inferior vertebrae to form fully.  It is almost never associated with bowel and bladder dysfunction.  That being said, if you are suspicious with persistent symptoms, see your family md for evaluation and possibly an MRI to rule this out.

i have coccyx pain for 2 yearsespecially after having bowel movement even though i don't strain . what can i do ? i haven't fallen it started spontaneously

Coccyx pain: You need to see your physician for a proper history and examination to care what is causing the problem.
