No: I would not recommend taking Zyrtec and Benadryl together as they are both antihistamines with similar mechanisms of action and side effects can be increased.

: Yes, these work in different ways. It takes up to half a hay or more to see the peak effect of Allegra, which is a benefit when taking long term during your allergy seasons. Benadryl peaks at 2 hours and is out of your body in 4-6 hours. The 2 don't counteract or interfere with each other. Benadryl can be sedating.

One should work with his doctor to see which combination of over-the-counter allergy meds and prescription asthma inhalers/pills work the best. A patient will learn over time, what medicines to add or increase, depending on how "bad" the air is.

i take claritin and it sort of helps but certainly not 100%.  can i take benadryl at the same time to try and knock out the allergy symptoms?  claritin says never to take more than 1 pill every 24 hrs???  can you od on claritin?

These medications: are usually quite effective for straight-forward allergies/allergic rhinitis.  Especially with your up--right posture symptoms, you need to make sure you don't have any mechanical obstructive issues like nasal polyps. It is not unusual to develop growths in the nose in people with allergies. They are difficult to see/diagnose without special instruments, so I would see an ENT specialist. Good luck

Just guessing...: But zyrtec (cetirizine) works wonders for me.  Maybe you could try that for a while and see how it goes.

Other choices: Itching of the palate is not an uncommon symptom with allergies.  This could be related to pollen-food allergy syndrome such as eating fresh apple (if you are allergic to birch tree), or melons (if you are ragweed allergic), etc.  Trying a different antihistamine may help--like fexofenadine (allegra).
