Let me explain: When you have the pacemaker done (which is metal) the metal dose not react like the normal skin. This why you feel over the pacemaker area. Good luck.

would you recommend a pacemaker for a 60 year old male patient who has long heart pauses (up to 8-9 seconds) only at night or during naps, 30 times per week, but has no other symptoms whatsoever? would the pacemaker extend life expectancy?

: The risk of long pauses is heart stoppage or arrhythmia (abnormal beats).  I am hoping you have sought out a cardiologist who can discover the cause of this.  Pacemakers can be life saving and some actually have a mechanism to electroshock the heart to restore rhythm if the beats are too infrequent.  Please have this fellow see a cardiologist and soon.

Sotalol: the pacer treats slow heart rate. Sotalol  treats various cardiac arrhythmias. Presumably your mom has need of both therapies. Ask her doctor.

Atrial fibrillation?: I assume she has atrial fibrillation? Betapace (sotalol) helps prevent recurrent episodes of AF. A side effect is that it makes the heart beat too slowly or even pause in susceptible people and when that occurs, a pacemaker is necessary to counteract that side effect. The pacemaker by itself won't stop the AF.

Pacemaker : Pacemaker is minor surgery.  Recovery time is one day in hospital and a few days at home.  It is not major at all.

Pacemaker: The prescence of a bbb is not an indication for a pacemaker . What needs to be established is whether the dizziness and fainting us due to advanced degrees of heart block . You need long term (21day) monitoring to see if that's the case.

Sounds OK: Pacemakers are programmed to deliver an electrical impulse to cause a heart beat whenever your heart rate goes below a certain "programmed" rate, usually about 50-70 beats/minute. Your doctor's comment indicates that your own heart rate falls below your programmed rate for 30% of your heartbeats, and your own heart rhythm is sufficient for 70% of heartbeats.

i an very deconditioned.  i have a biventricular pacemaker.  would it be better to walk at a slow pace for a longtime or short time fast paced?

Walking: Start out slowly and over time slowly increase your time and distance as tolerated.
