Atrial fibrillation?: I assume she has atrial fibrillation? Betapace (sotalol) helps prevent recurrent episodes of AF. A side effect is that it makes the heart beat too slowly or even pause in susceptible people and when that occurs, a pacemaker is necessary to counteract that side effect. The pacemaker by itself won't stop the AF.
