i started taking 5mg amlodipine 2 weeks ago, along with my regular atenolol (50mg) + clopidogrel. now i am having swollen hands, ankle and feet, warmth in my legs, increased urination at night and some dull chest pain. are these caused by amlodipine?

: Very likely. Amlodipine is notorious for causing fluid retention. Lots of alternatives. Check with your doc

i eat lots of sugar before bedtime i wake up the next morning with a higher than usual hr. why is this?hr upon waking 75+. i take atenolol daily 75mg

Diet/HR: Blood sugar elevations may or may not affect your heart rate especially if you are diabetic or pre- diabetic. I suggest a formal glucose tolerance test by your PCP and certainly modifying your diet, avoiding bedtime sugar loading. Call for formal blood testing and also have your thyroid function evaluated.

i have been told have benign atrial ectopic beats. i have been having lots of then recently. i am already taking 50mg atenolol per day but recently doesn't seem to be working as well as before. thoughts?

: The question is are you really feeling ectopic beats or something else? Often ectopic beats are not symptomatic. More information is needed. What do you feel?

: Were you prescribed atenolol to slow your heart rate,prevent or treat arrythmias,for cardioprotection because of prior heart attack or to treat angina? It is also used to treat hypertension. Nondihydropyridine calcium channel blockers like verapamil or diltiazem can be used in cardiac patients for some of these indications without causing fatigue. Discuss whether you could be tried on one of these

i strongly believe i may be pregnant. too soon for a + test result. my biggest concern is i take atenolol and trazodne . i fear taking  these a lot!?

Stop both: If you may be pregnant, you should stop both and are, hopefully , already taking Folic Acid supplements (if not, start immediately). Atenolol is class d (unsafe) in pregnancy.  Trazodone is class c (safety is unknown). A substitute for atenolol, if you need it, is Acebutolol which is class b (no human studies in the 1st trimester but probably safe, ok in 2nd and 3rd trimesters). Good luck!

Blood pressure: It is normal because you are on the medication, do not stop it before consulting with your physician.

the impact of magnesium on hr i notice when i eat lots of raw almonds heart rate down to mid 50's at rest. should i stop?i also take atenolol daily.

It is unlikely: that the volume of almonds significantly changes your magnesium level or your heart rate. The Atenolol is much more potent and probably is the source of your bradycardia. It's just coincidence. Enjoy the treat.

i was on atenolol for about 10 years and got off of it and now i have a lot less bowel movements, could this be related? it started about a week after

Beta blocker: It would be somewhat unusual to see what you describe related to beta blocker withdrawal. If it doesn't return to its usual pattern and if you don't feel well see your doctor to be evaluated.
