i am on meds for high blood pressure, and i suffer from allergies. my allergies manifest as a unproductive cough. i take cetirizine for my allergies, but it doesnt get rid of the cough.  is there another antihistamine that would work better?

Many causes: There are many causes for a chronic unproductive cough. Postnasal drip from sinusitis, Asthma, Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Infections, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and some Blood pressure meds. Talk to your Dr to have a thorough evaluation where these are ruled out. They can also discuss the effectiveness of your allergy meds.

i get hayfever only in the mornings as soon as i wake up even though i take antihistamine every day. what can i do to stop it from happening?

Depends: If you're not on a long-acting antihistamine, i would say switch to one of the 24 hour ones, and take it at bedtime so that it is fully in your system when you wake up the next morning.

Yes: most antihistamines clear within 2 -3 days or less, 1 week is a precautionary measure to make sure that your system is clear, that&#x27;s mainly if you are going to be skin tested for allergies to either drugs, inhalants (such pollens), or foods extracts

If it was: Due to the antihistamine, which a doubt, it should be relatively quickly over days. Also, it is unlikely that that is the cause of your hair loss. Check w/your doctor for other explanations for all of your concerns.

Food testing: Food intolerance testing is not scientifically based, meaning this is not a good test. The best test for food intolerance is to eliminate one food at a time to see if symptoms improve. Food allergy testing (specific IgE testing via blood or skin) is a scientifically validated test and is used for patients with history of hives, itching, swelling, wheezing, coughing, vomiting, etc soon after eating

is taking antihistamine everyday bad for you in the long term? will my immune system get impaired?

No and no.: There are no known longterm sequellae from antihistamines. I would stick with the long-acting, non-sedating ones, such as Allegra and Claritin, (loratadine) since the short-acting ones can make you drowsy. Antihistamines do not affect the immune system in any measurable way.

Be specific: You fail to indicate WHICH antihistamine. All antihistamines need time to see effect. Some are more effective than others. What type of hives, what specific trigger? Allergy to antihistamine is possible but not likely. Vague itching soon after a dose is not a good reason to suspect allergy.
