i have 1.1ug/ml of lamotrigine for seizures in my blood. my neuro says its within normal levels. but i havent been feeling well and getting breakthroughs. is there something i should ask my neuro to help with the breakthroughs?

: The usual therapeutic range runs from 2.5-15 mcg/ml, and yours is clearly subtherapeutic.  The goal is to become as seizure-free as possible and not experience episodic seizures.  The discussion should be focused on control and medication that is well tolerated and easy compliance.

: It is possible but rare, you should be fine and take medication right away when getting home. Try your best not to miss your med, take care.

lamotrigine 2x day for seizures. taking it at 12pm and 12am. traveling to europe and will be 6 hours ahead in time. do you recommend sticking to us time taking my medication at 6am/6pm or is there a way to move my schedule?

: The lamotrigine should be taken twice daily, that is, roughly every 12 hrs., and  there is no real need to severely modify this approach,  regardless of the time zone.  Shifting about 1-2 hrs. per dose should be fine, if necessary, but would basically stick to  your usual schedule and not miss your doses.

can green coffee extract lower seizure threshold when on lamotrigine and sz free for 7 years,  2 seizures after 2 weeks on green coffee extract?

Accepted Answer

This may be key: Chlorogenic acid is the specific component promoted by dr oz, and seems to have some anti-oxidant qualities, but slows glucose release, relaxes bowel like prunes, and seems to be metabolized in the liver.  Would get your Lamotrigine level checked as there likely is a cytochrome p-450 interaction and your level has likely dropped.

i am titrating up on lamotrigine for 4 days now. i am a hypochondriac and concern with sjs. taking lamotrigine for suspicion of first seizure.

Good: Do need to watch for SJS.  Should not be increased faster that 25mg per week.

if i take wellbutrin (bupropion) while withdrawing from benzos, will lamotrigine prevent any/all possible seizures? or is there still a chance of seizures?

Accepted Answer

Not bullet proof: Lamotrigine is a good strategy for preventing Wellbutrin (bupropion) seizures, however, you still can get seizures even though you are taking anticonvulsant. Also the dosage of anticonvulsants you are on wouldn't make that much of a difference in in stopping seizure.  Ask your doctor if it is possible for you divide Wellbutrin (bupropion) in 3 smaller doses during the day. Good luck.

: Contact your neurologist ASAP, as your dosage is clearly sub-therapeutic and should be titrated upwards. Would anticipate far better control once this is addressed.  In the meantime, do not drive, do activities at heights, use power equipment, bathe or swim alone.

is it alright to take cipro (ciprofloxacin) with lamotrigine?  the warnings for cipro (ciprofloxacin) say that it can cause seizures? do i need to be worried?

Accepted Answer

Antibiotics & seizur: All of the quinolone class of antibiotics (including cipro) can lower seizure threshold (especially levaquin).  It is safer to discuss this with your family doctor and if possible find a different class of antibiotic.  Sometimes Cipro (ciprofloxacin) can be used, but the details, like seizure type and frequency, need to be carefully weighed.  I would discuss with your doctor and neurologist.

See below: The ideal bith control for your situation would probably be a non-hormonal iud because it's effective, it does not contain hormones, an you don't have to remembr it.
