i have azithromycin, amoxicillin, cefdinir, and cephalexin at home. will any of these treat an ear lobe piercing infection?

: You shouldn't have any of these at home. Antibiotics are supposed to be taken. Even if you feel better, stoping antibiotics early can result in rebound infection or antibiotic resistant bacteria. You should be seen by a GP or Dermatologist to determine type of antibiotic, strength, and (very important) how long they have to be taken.

Maybe: Amoxicillin is a good antibiotic for some mouth infections but many people develope an allergy to it.  There are also resistant bacteria and anaerobic bacteria that do not respond to this drug.  You should seek professional guidance with this infection and treat it quickly.  Removing the stud  should be considered.

Maybe: It might work but not at all a wise choice because most staphylococci are resistant to it.

No: Anytime you don't respond to a prescribed antibiotic then contact your Doc. Amoxicillin may not be the right one for the germ causing the infection. I am always concerned about MRSA which requires a different medication. If your piercing was through the upper ear cartilage then seek attention asap. Limited blood flow in this region can make healing very difficult.

im taking augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) for a piercing infection & i halvent been eating yogurt with it. it burns when i pee. whats wrong with me!?

Dysuria: I doubt that the Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) has anything to do with these urinary symptoms. What u describe is the symptom of dysuria-so this needs evaluation by a doctor. A urinalysis and urine culture would be a good place to start. You may also need an STD check if your sexually active and don't use protection. Yogurt is good to eat, but not essential. Hope your piercing infection clears up- Q over treatment?

: Amoxicillin generally does not cause bacterial vaginosis. You should be fine from that point of view. Be sure you take the entire course of antibiotics., Even if you’re feeling better. Good luck.

: Time will tell. It depends on if you infection is sensitive to amox.  I would wait until all cleared up befroe more ear piercing and sterilize all devices you use to pierce with,

Not usually: Most throat and and bronchial infections are caused by viruses, which cannot be treated with antibiotics.  In those cases, Amoxicillin is a placebo.  However, it would work if you had strep throat.

tragus piercing infection. what can i do?

Accepted Answer

Antibiotics & check: If the tragus is red, swollen & tender from an infection, i would first start a topical antibiotic ointment to the area like bactroban (mupirocin).  I would get this checked out by an ENT doctor who may be interested in prescribing oral antibiotics for this if needed.  The most important thing is to see a doctor to start some form of antibiotics if needed.  An ENT would be the best choice to treat this.
