is it possible that allergies have caused my pneumonia?

Unlikely but...: A single episode of pneumonia is usually caused by an infection especially by the bacteria pneumococcus, multiple viruses or atypical pneumonia caused by mycoplasma (walking pneumonia).  A person with recurrent pneumonia should be checked for abpa (aspergillus mold) that goes along with allergy and asthma.

a family member has allergy induced pneumonia, is that contagious? i heard it was not.  i have asthma and i am concerned.

Molds?: Do you mean hypersensitivity pneumonitis which can be caused by an immune reaction to molds or an occupational exposure?  Allergy otherwise does not cause pneumonia.  If the pneumonia is not caused by a virus or bacteria, it is not transmitted to another person. But if you are also exposed to the same environment, your risk of developing pneumonitis is somewhat higher

is it true post nasal drip from allergies can turn into pneumonia? is it true pnd can enter your lungs?

Not usually: Damage done by a viral cold can enable pneumonia-causing pathogens to gain access, but this is not generally true for allergy.  Allergy and poor nasal/sinus health will increase frequency of viral infections that can then open the door for pneumonia, usually only in susceptible populations. PND does not carry infection to the lung. In fact, automated reflexes in the throat cause it to be swallowed

i was recently in the hospital and treated for pneumonia with rocephin in spite of a supposed allergy to pcn.does this mean im not allergic to pcn?

"supposed allergy": is the key word, but still we can't clear you to be NOT allergic to PCN, although highly unlikely that you are. Cross reactivity of penicillin and ceftriaxone (rocephin) , is much less than other cephalosporins. If you need PCN and it is the only treatment for your condition, then testing / desensitization can be performed, otherwise there are alternatives, so you don't need to worry

Not really: The pneumonia vaccine will help prevent infections from S pneumonia. It will not stop or prevent allergy problems. If ones sinus problems are caused by infection related to S pneumonia then yes it will help other wise no.

Dbl pneumonia: Double pneumonia means that there is infection in both lungs. It is not per se contagious - acquiring pneumonia of any type is more about the health of the host than the virulence of the infecting organism (with a few exceptions). Your symptoms could be consistent with pneumonia or pleurisy and could follow a viral infection. You should be evaluated in person - you may need blood work and a cxr.

Shortness of breath, fatigue, chest tightness, chest pain and more chest pain when laying down are all signs of heart failure. Congestive heart failure results in fluid build up in the lungs and in the body which causes your heart to work harder and breathing requires more effort. With your history, it is crucial you see your doctor right away to avoid complete heart failure and respiratory failure. If you are experiencing chest pain that is severe, get help. Call 911. Do not attempt to drive yourself to the emergency room. You could be having a heart attack.

Infection...: Pneumonia is caused by an infection of the lung parenchyma. When the etiology is bacterial, antibiotics are prescribed whereas supportive care is given when there is a viral etiology.
