wheni drinkalcohol iget chest pains about 10 minutes after drinking the more i drink the more it hurts. i think it might be caused by angina caused by the alcohol. if that is the case if i took some antianginal medication beforedrinking wouldit help?

: Nobody needs to drink alcohol. At age 20 years the chances you have the typical angina is very unlikely, you may want to have doctor check you to make sure you do not have another serious heart disease that may require prompt attention rather than taking medication for anti-angina so you could drink something that your body does not need.

Yes it can: Alcohol is an irritant to the stomach lining, which can cause gastritis (and subsequent referred chest pain.) alcohol also loosens the lower esophageal sphincter increasing the likelihood of reflux esophagitis symptoms (i.e."heartburn").

Yes: Most of the time the discomfort is in the mid upper abdomen. In your case reflux itself would cause similar symptoms. Aside from hiatal hernia, a variety of other medical conditions may account for your symptoms, including but not limited to gallbladder disease, intrinsic gastric/ duodenal pathology or liver disease. Cut on alcohol and monitor your symptoms. If persisting mention them to your doc.

You need evaluation: I have no idea what the pain is, or why drinking alcohol makes it better, but you need to talk to your doctor. Hypertension in a 22 year old man is distinctly abnormal, and if your doctor has not tested you for more unusual causes of hypertension (coarctation of the aorta, primary hyperaldosteronism, renal artery stenosis and others), you should be tested for these. Talk to him about drinking also.

You need to contact your doctor prior to stopping alcohol or proceed to the emergency room if you start to experience withdrawal symptoms since these can be very dangerous. Alcohol withdrawal is one of the few drug withdrawals that can actually kill you, so we take it very seriously.  There are medications that can help, but they are restricted substances and should be given with careful monitoring.
