No: Theoretically it could, but there is no data in the medical literature  to say that it does in real life. Even if it could, you should not ignore that abnormal glucose tolerance test result. If diagnosed with gestational diabetes, regardless of the reason, work to control the sugars by meeting with a dietician, exercising a bit (walking), and working with your doctors.

Home pregnancy test: The home pregnancy tests you can buy in a drug store are quite reliable so use that. Some women can notice breast tenderness or nausea or frequent urination with early pregnancy.

Diabetes risk ?'s: Carbohydrates in general should be limited in pregnancy, but occasional excess will not "cause" gestational diabetes.  Ask your OB physician about nutritional information and limit the weight gain accordingly.  There are some risks in diabetic pregnancies, but managed appropriately, these risks can be minimized.

i failed my first gestational diabetes screen test, and then ate really well for a week before my three drink test and passed that one (though one of my numbers was just over) - is it possible my result was wrong? can you cheat by eating well before?

: No. Eating properly 2 weeks before the test is the standard but rarely are patients given or carry out these instructions. You might want to go to uptodate.com and read how to do it right. Cost is $20 for 1 week access. Lots of very good info about pre diabetes and preg induced glucose intolerance.  Read and discuss with your team. What did the instructions from the lab tell you to do?
