i went to emergency last night with breathlessness, neck pain, headache and lightheadedness. ecg normal. blood tests normal. lungs sound clear with no blood clots. what else would cause those symptoms?

COVID 19/flu: At the hospital, they may have ruled out influenza and COVID 19. Other causes may include an allergic reaction which resolved. If there was a new exposure to a new substance, food  shortly before these symptoms, consider allergy testing. If this recurs a head CT may be indicated. Monitor your blood pressure and avoid stress.

No: Hypothyroidism is associated with increased bleeding and decreased clotting factors which makes forming blood clots less likely.

can a dr find out , that a person have blood clots or a thyroid problem even of they weren't looking for it in your blood work?

Accepted Answer

Yes : If you do a CBC or cell blood count and a thyroid test like TSH you can find these problems if you were having these tests done as a routine screening.

Need evaluation: Heavy bleeding (menorrhagia) that you describe can be constitutional ie. No physical cause, but could be something organic like fibroids, polyps etc. You need an examination which may need to include ultrasound, sonohysterogram. If nothing is found management would depend on your age and desire for future fertility. Could be controlled with birth control pills, Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud or lysteda, ablation.

Very rarely: But yes.  Clots in jugular veins occur with trauma, with dialysis catheters or central venous iv lines, and with tumors.  Clots in carotid arteris can occur with stenosis or plaque. All are dangerous.

have a large 2 inch hickey on side of neck, it is very dark and big. worried about the possibility of blood clots? what should i do? aspirin? help

Not to worry: A hickey will not generate any significant blood clot. Focus your attention on your attire for the several days it will take to fade and the relationship. If it was an accident, learning is possible, if your partner was marking territory you need to set some boundaries.

Is this something: Easily visible to others or do they have to look very closely? Are you in pain?  Are u still able to move ok? The face and leg would be unrelated, i can't think of a process that would cause swelling in both.  One sided leg swelling in absense of clot can be hard to solve. Have u lost weight? Sometimes that can result in uneven size in legs. Doesn't sound like bells palsey, r u sleeping at night?

Yes: It should do this, but a dye study would be a better test for greater accuracy

Mgt: You may have an infection of the airways and sinuses. The source of the blood should be determined by your physician. From your description, a course of antibiotics and a sputum sample for cultures may be sent. 
Most viral infections tend to improve over the course of one week.
