Interesting question: ... And not one that's known to most physicians, i imagine.  If no one else is able to chime in, i'd recommend calling the lab you're supposed to submit it to - they should be able to tell you when need to turn it in by.

Purpose?: This will depend upon the reason it is being submitted.  Generally your doctor will provide you with a container into which a specimen can be placed.  Sometimes they can extract enough during a rectal exam to satisfy the need for a specimen.  If it is for culture, it should be fresh (if that is an acceptable term for stool).  Same for exam of parasites.

infections with parasites, certain unusual bacteria, fungus.
Chemicals fatty or lack of bile and probably others.

No: A stool sample could have blood, which can be a sign of polyps. But blood in the stool can be caused by a long list of other things. Polyps can only be reliably diagnosed with a colonoscopy.

No, Not necessarily: Unless the doctor is debating whether to do a Colonoscopy or not.
 For routine screening,, colonoscopy is done as a stand alone test for early detection of Polyps and colon Cancer.

: You get a sample to find out whether or not there is a problem and which round worm might be involved, Each of the several responds to different treatment.  Next time you post you might specify which round worm you are considering.

Doesn't sound right: People with fat malabsorption typically have foul smelling, loose, and floating stools.  Eating more fat only exacerbates the problem.  Typically associated with pancreatic insufficiency.  Please discuss again with your doctor. I doubt any physician would advise a patient to eat fast food for treatment.

i did one fit stool test back in march, it was negative. i have read you should do more then one test. should you do two tests same day with same or different sample or wait a day or two to do the second test?

: A single negative FIT a year is generally adequate. If you plan to repeat the test you should do on stool from different days.
