: You need to see your Gyn for proper assessment . yeast infection is not the usual cause of PID. Pap smear is for abnormal cells in the cervix.

No: Doctors may check for gonorrhea and chlamydia in the process of doing a pap smear (using a separate swab).  Those infections can cause pid.  However, the diagnosis of pid is made based on symptoms and physical exam, not by a specific test.

Get treatment: Chlamydia is treatable and you should take treatment for it. It is customary to treat for both gonorrhea and chlamydia if a person has one.Please consult your doctor about getting tests for other STDs. PID does not show up on PAP tests, you need to be examined by a gynecologist.

PID pain more common: PID causes a great deal of pain with sex and likely makes the recipient forget that the reason for the encounter was "pleasure". Post sex bleeding is a very unlikely presentation for PID.

Possibly Wrong DX: I find that ERs over diagnose women who present with pelvic pain and/or vaginal discharge with PID. It would help to have more information, including symptoms you had.  I assume they Rxd antibiotics , and your US was normal.  They likely tested you for GC/Chlamydia, which are the most common causes of PID, but not the only pathogens that can cause it.  If no better see gyn specialist. Take Care.

i tested positive for hpv a year and half ago. went for a pap the other day and i have pid but no signs of infection. could this be a sign of cancer?

Cervical  infections: Testing positive for hpv puts you at a risk of cervical cancer but does not necessarily mean you will progress to cancer.  It is important to be compliant with your pap smear exams so that cancer is not missed and early detection of precancerous cells can be managed.  Just like hpv, pid is sexually transmitted but this kind of infection can lead to scarring of your pelvic organs if not treated.

before and during my pregnancy  i had paps and std testing. nothing was wrong. now a year later i find out i have pid. how was it missed?

Exposures ???: I would suppose you & your partner have had additional exposures over the past year. You or your partner may have had a problem surface that was not detected by regular screening(or not specifically tested). You can review the findings with the treating physician, but the agent came in at some point & the actual form of pid may point to the timing involved.

i had chlamydia and pid when i had my pap done. could this cause it to come back with lpil mild dysplasia. dysplasia runs in my family too.

Yes, but the reason : Pid and chlamydia are both sexually transmitted diseases. Lgsil is caused by hpv, also a sexually transmitted disease. Therefore, if you have one form of std, you could easily have another. Dyslasia is not inherited. However, you should use condoms and barrier methods of contraception to prevent stds--and perhaps talk to potential partners before sex so you don't get another infection. Safe sex!
