Accepted Answer

Not directly: Allergies do not cause fevers but secondary conditions related to allergies can cause fevers such as ear infections that resulted from fluid behind the ear drum that becomes infected.

why do i always get low grade fever after i eat sweet cheese? i get fever after like half a day.food allergy?leaky gut ?

Accepted Answer

Fever: Although don't know what you mean by low grade, fever is commonly a response to an inflammatory process which causes release of cytokines like tnf or il-2, etc.  These stimulate the hypothalamus to reset the body's thermostat.  Allergy can do this, but many things are possible. Doubt you have a "leaky gut". Good luck.

my 3 year old had a food allergy for the first time. doctor gave an oral steroid now he is soaked in sweat no fever is this normal?

Accepted Answer

Not usual but: Food allergy is not usually treated with steroid. However when the dose is high, it may cause flushing and thus the sweating without fever.  Food reactions usually subside in less than a day at best and thus i question the use of steroid unless he had hives which could not be controlled with large dose of antihistamine.

Common: Diaphoresis (sweating)  is a common side effect to steroids and shouldn't be bothersome, just observe.

1 year old is congested at night & has a hard time sleeping & feeding due to stuffy nose. she also has runny nose during the day. she has no fever or coughing. she seems to have great energy otherwise. could she have food allergy?

: She may be demonstrating signs of allergy to food or dust.  Checking with your PCP may help you solve the problem.

Fevers: It does not sound like any of the three causes are the cause of your intermittent fevers. You may want to consult a rheumatologist to determine the cause of your fevers.

can i give my 15 month old peptobismol? she keeps throwing up with no signs of fever or illness.  we have checked food allergies, ans gerd (taking zantac (ranitidine) 2x daily). i cannot figure out what's wrong :-(

I wouldn't: Pepto has salycilates which we don't give tom kids under 16 because of an association with liver failure/death (Reye syndrome).Wet burps that do not result in problems with hydration often decrease with age as the reflux improves.If the kid is growing well. I would leave it alone.

Skin issues: Food allergy is not associated with wrinkles. Some people with lots of allergies can have creases under their eyes, but not true wrinkles. Some people with food allergies will also get rashes if they ingest the food they are allergic to.

FOOD ALLERGY: A food allergy can cause many symptoms: itching, tingling of the mouth, hives, swelling of the face and lips, wheezing, trouble in breathing, dizziness, lightheadness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fainting and other symptoms. If you know which food, stop it immediatlely!  and see a doctor!

Accepted Answer

Not Usually: Food allergies typically cause hives, swelling, rapid crampy vomiting or diarrhea within 15-30 min of eating the food, difficulty breathing or anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction resulting in decreased blood pressure and circulatory collapse).  If you have lost that much weight you should see your doctor for further evaluation.
