This : This is very common. A child is thought to be allergic to a drug (commonly amoxicillin) this is usually because the child's mother or guardian incorrectly identifies a symptom a child has while taking antibiotics and assumes they are allergic. For example, a patient's mother told me her child was allergic to amoxicillin.I asked why, and she stated it was because he had a stomach ache after taking it. This did not indicate an allergy, but the mother thought it did. Allergy to medication usually presents as an itchy rash, hives, and more seriously difficulty breathing. In your case it is likely that you never had an allergy to amoxicillin.

my child was prescribed 12.5ml amoxicillin once a day for strep...... should this be at least twice a day?

No: Although the treatment of strep throat has traditionally been twice daily, studies have shown that essentially twice the amount of amoxicillin once daily is just as effective in treating the infection

Depends: Some allergic reactions like a simple rash are more cosmetic than worrisome and not as important as major hives or swelling of lips and difficulty breathing. The more intense the reaction the more important it is to avoid the trigger group. If a cillin med were the best choice in a major infection, an allergist could do some specialized work to desensitize the patient and make use safe.

my child has strep. she is 48.8 lbs. it is amoxicillin 400mg/5ml sus. she is suppose to take 6.2 ml a day, twice a day. this seems a little low to me? or is this correct for her weight?

: I find the dose fine for strep. It is often used at higher doses in ear infections where there is difficulty achieving a concentration that will kill those germs in middle ear mucus.
